Throughout June, several eThekwini Municipality departments were active in the uMhlanga precinct, attending to core service delivery areas to support ongoing urban management efforts during the start of the busy winter holiday season.
Streetlight Maintenance and Audits
Streetlighting remains a key focus, particularly in high-traffic areas such as the Promenade and Lagoon Drive. The eTM Electrical Department conducted audits and repairs during the month, including work on Breakers path lighting. While many lights have been restored, some isolated issuesβsuch as a cable fault at the start of the Boardwalk and a light pole along Lighthouse Roadβremain open and are receiving continued attention.
Stormwater and Road Oversight
The Roads and Stormwater departments conducted precinct-wide inspections and attended to several long-standing issues. Cases were logged where necessary, and the repainting of traffic signals and markings was also completed during the month, contributing to improved visibility and safety.
Sewage and Water Infrastructure
Two sewage-related incidents were reported and attended to swiftly during June. In addition, a water leak along Lagoon Drive was reported and addressed. The UIP continues to monitor infrastructure faults and escalate where necessary to ensure service continuity.
Metro Police Visibility and Office Activation
Metro Police maintained high visibility across the precinct throughout June, supported by the occupation of the newly designated Metro offices on the Village Green. Final fittings and signage were installed during the month, contributing to increased security presence and operational capacity within the precinct.
Looking Ahead
While certain maintenance items remain open, the presence of municipal departments and their attendance to reported faults plays an important role in keeping the precinct functioning smoothly. The UIP will continue to monitor service delivery, provide support on the ground, and escalate outstanding issues to the relevant departments to maintain the high standards expected by members, residents, and visitors alike.
