Strong collaboration between the Umhlanga UIP and eThekwini Municipality continued to deliver results throughout July, with significant work undertaken across infrastructure, public services and environmental management.
9-Day Beach Closure Successfully Resolved
One of the month’s most significant challenges was a major sewage pipe burst in Lagoon Drive, which resulted in the temporary closure of Bronze Beach for nine days. The UIP worked closely with engineers from the Sewer Department throughout the repair process to help minimise delays and support the restoration of services. While road reinstatement work is still outstanding, the successful repair of the pipeline allowed beaches to reopen during the month.

Both beaches remained clean and continued to return good water quality results following the reopening, providing reassurance to residents and visitors.
96% Streetlight Functionality Maintained
The UUIP continued with scheduled weekly lighting audits, helping maintain high levels of streetlight functionality across the precinct. By month-end, approximately 96% of promenade lights and 96% of village streetlights were operational. The municipality also completed repairs to the iconic Umhlanga sign.
July once again highlighted the importance of partnership between the UIP and municipal departments. Together, these efforts continue to improve the functionality, safety and overall experience of the Umhlanga Rocks precinct
