Close to 200 Bags of Litter Removed: Umhlanga Well-Maintained This July

Cleaning, Greening and Maintenance

The Umhlanga UIP delivered consistent cleaning, greening and maintenance throughout July, ensuring that the precinct was clean, functional and welcoming throughout the busy winter holiday period.

150 Bags Collected from Beaches & Promenade

As always, a major focus was on the cleanliness and appearance of public spaces. All grassed areas within the precinct were cut and maintained, while landscaping teams addressed irrigation issues as they arose to keep public spaces looking their best.

Additional resources were deployed along the M4 corridor, with a dedicated forest cleaner and two additional staff members supporting clean-up operations. This resulted in 39 bags of rubbish being removed from the M4, while surrounding stormwater drains were cleared of debris.

Daily beach cleaning was also a priority during the holiday period. Working alongside municipal teams, UIP beach cleaners helped maintain both beaches and the promenade, with approximately 150 refuse bags removed from these areas during July.

Ongoing Maintenance Improves Public Spaces

Maintenance work extended beyond cleaning operations. Grass planting was completed at Bronze Beach, while village paving repairs were undertaken to improve the condition of public infrastructure.

UIP contractors also removed trip hazards near Lighthouse Mall and Protea Mall, and additional paving repairs are still underway in Granada Square and along Chartwell Drive.

July’s work reflects the value of consistent on-the-ground service delivery. From daily cleaning operations and landscaping maintenance to targeted infrastructure repairs, the UIP teams continued to focus on maintaining a precinct that is clean, safe and enjoyable for everyone who lives, works and visits Umhlanga.
