Residents are urged to utilise the correct bags for disposal of waste, garden refuse, and recycling. The Cleansing and Solid Waste (CSW) Unit has noted that residents are not utilising the correct bags for the different types of waste. Waste placed in the incorrect bag will not be collected.
Black refuse bags
These are used for domestic refuse and are delivered to residential properties every three months.
These bags are not for sale and if residents require additional bags, they can be ordered on a once-only or on a regular basis by telephoning the CSW Customer Service Helpline on 031 311 8804 or email DSW@durban.gov.za
Blue garden bags
The unit also offers an optional, convenient, and easy garden refuse disposal service. Blue bags (with the CSW logo) are used for garden refuse only and can be filled with leaves, grass, and twigs. They should not contain any paper, plastics, cans, cardboard, or food waste. Blue garden refuse bags are available at selected retail stores, hardware stores, and service stations. Residents can choose to be on a contract where delivery will be done to their home. The retail fee of the bag includes collection. Blue bags are collected on the same day as domestic refuse. To set up a blue bag service delivery contract, residents can contact CSW Customer Service at the number below.
Orange recycling bags
These are solely for recycling purposes. Households on the Kerbside Programme are supplied with one pack of 15 orange bags. Waste types accepted in recycling bags are newspapers, magazines, cereal cartons, cardboard, plastics, plastic bottles, and tetra-pack material. Th collection is on the same day as domestic refuse. There are current challenges with this programme which has led the Cleansing and Solid Waste Unit to write a report requesting permission to reconfigure the current programme.
For information, residents can contact the CSW Customer Service Helpline on 031 311 8804 or email DSW@durban.gov.za
