DURBAN is ready to roll out the red carpet for delegates attending the 2023 Africa Travel Indaba. The Indaba takes place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) from 8 to 11 May.
With three weeks to go before the Africa Travel Indaba, Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille together with provincial and City leadership and tourism stakeholders launched the trade show on 28 March at the Durban ICC.
The launch was the official countdown to the Indaba. eThekwini Deputy Chairperson for the Economic Development and Planning Committee Councilor Phili Mbatha- Ndlovu said: “Our projections indicate that this year’s Indaba will contribute over R130 million to the City’s GDP and create over 250 job opportunities. We anticipate a hotel occupancy rate of 90 percent which will be a major boost for the hospitality sector.” Minister de Lille said the trade show will not only have a new look but also promises a packed schedule with an emphasis on networking for business opportunities for both exhibitors and buyers. Minister de Lille highlighted the role Africa’s Travel Indaba plays in contributing to Africa’s tourism sector recovery and growth post the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We all need to play our part to re-ignite the African economy. The Africa Travel Indaba presents us with an opportunity to continue to grow the sector.”
Africa’s Travel Indaba will once again host small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) from various provinces in South Africa that will exhibit in the ‘Hidden Gems’ corner. They will showcase their products and experiences to thousands of delegates. There will also be more established businesses from across the African continent exhibiting.
Pre and post-tours to familiarise delegates with the provinces and City’s tourism offerings will also be on offer.
