The July school holidays brought a steady flow of locals and visitors to uMhlanga’s vibrant beachfront and village areas. With clear skies and bustling beaches, the uMhlanga UIP remained focused on maintaining high standards across cleaning, greening, and public space management throughout the month.
Beachfront in Top Condition for Holiday Season
Both main beaches remained open and in excellent condition during the July holiday period. Daily beach cleaning, delivered through the combined efforts of the UIP, eThekwini Parks Department and contracted cleaning teams, ensured a clean and welcoming coastline throughout the season.

Ongoing Maintenance and Greening Across the Precinct
July saw all grassed areas across the precinct cut and maintained by both the Parks Department and UIP teams, contributing to the overall visual appeal and cleanliness of the area. Additionally, the Forest Café shutters were renewed, supporting the ongoing functionality of this community space.

Extra cleaners were deployed along the M4 corridor to tackle vegetation overgrowth and litter build-up—efforts that delivered noticeable improvements along this busy route.
The UIP also tackled repairs to damaged curbs in the precinct. Below shows before and after images of the work completed:

Collaborative Support in Public Space Management
A key milestone this month was the official handover of maintenance responsibilities for the Flamingo Lane vegetation areas from Council and Oceans to the Parks Department and UIP. This strengthens coordinated landscaping and public area management within the precinct.
Improved Facilities
Following the completion of a snag list and in support of local commerce, six trader’s facilities were officially handed over to traders—part of a broader precinct plan to enhance service delivery and infrastructure support.

uMhlanga UIP remains committed to ensuring the precinct remains clean, green, and well-maintained year-round. As we transition into August, our teams continue to focus on keeping the area functional, attractive and safe for all who live in, work in, and visit uMhlanga.
