Following on from our story about Rocomamas going straw-less, the uMhlanga UIP is also supporting Umhlanga Tourism’s endeavors for a straw-less uMhlanga Rocks, and the efforts of The Oyster Box and The George.

The George made a straw-less pledge after owner Pete Ely’s daughter came home yet again complaining about swimming with plastic. The George has got rid of all single-use plastic straws, offering a paper option for those who ask. Although the paper option is double the price, Pete believes it has to be done and is prepared to pay for them. In addition to this, he will also continue discouraging plastic carrier bags for take-away’s and will also be appealing to other large corporations to reconsider how they package their products.

The Oyster Box Hotel has added their own voice to the straw-less initiative, banning all single-use plastic straws and instead providing a biodegradable version if asked.

If you are going straw-less or embarking on any other ‘plastic-reducing’ initiative, please let us know so we can share your endeavors. #strawlessumhlangarocks #notothestraw. For more from Umhlanga Tourism, follow their blog.
