uMhlanga cleaning, greening & maintenance update: kicking off 2025

As we step into the new year, the uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) is continuing its commitment to maintaining a clean, green, and well-kept precinct. January has seen a strong start, with a focus on keeping public spaces pristine following the busy festive season.

Keeping Our Precinct Green & Clean

Our seasonal staff played a crucial role during the festive period, ensuring that uMhlanga remained tidy and welcoming. Their efforts extended into early January, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.

Grass cutting was completed across the precinct, with Parks and UIP teams working together to maintain green spaces.
Litter collection continued daily by both morning and night shift teams, keeping public areas clean and enjoyable.
✅ The Council’s Learners Program continues to add value, with six additional staff members serving as forest guides. Their work supports the conservation of our natural areas while enhancing visitor experiences.

Water & Beach Maintenance 💧

Ensuring infrastructure efficiency, the UIP attended to several water leak repairs:

✔️ 3x leaks at the Pier pumpstation repaired
✔️ 1x water leak on the Promenade fixed by the UIP

Meanwhile, our beaches remained open throughout the holiday period, except for two days when balls of fat washed ashore. These were quickly collected in a joint operation by Parks and the UIP, ensuring the beaches were restored to their pristine condition. Pictured below, balls of fat that washed up onto Main Beach.

A Strong Start for the Forest Café

The Forest Café recorded a record-breaking December 2024, welcoming visitors and residents alike. This success has carried into the new year, making it a must-visit stop along the trails.

With the first month of 2025 well underway, the UIP remains dedicated to keeping uMhlanga clean, green, and well-maintained. Thank you to our teams, partners, and community for their continued support in preserving our beautiful precinct.
