The Umhlanga Rocks UIP teams have maintained a high standard of service delivery throughout the month, with continued focus on cleaning, greening and infrastructure maintenance, ensuring the precinct is prepared for residents and visitors alike during the upcoming holiday season
98% Lights Operational, 60m Fire Hose on Promenade & Routine Audits
Infrastructure maintenance remained a key focus throughout the month, contributing to improved safety and reliability across public spaces.
- Promenade streetlights are at 98% functionality, with village lighting maintaining approximately 92% operational status. Ongoing audits and repairs were conducted in partnership with the municipality to maintain consistent performance.
- Roads and stormwater systems were regularly inspected, with issues logged and addressed.
- Additional upgrades included the installation of a 60-metre fire hose system on the promenade, improving emergency preparedness in key public areas.
Cleaning & Maintenance Across the Precinct β 400 Refuse Bags Removed
The cleaning, greening and maintenance teams continued to deliver steady, visible results throughout June, ensuring that all public areas remained well-kept and functional. Key maintenance activities included:
- Ongoing grass cutting and verge maintenance across UIP-managed areas.
- Routine garden maintenance and landscaping.
- Over 400 refuse bags were removed from the beaches and promenade this month.
Operational teams also responded quickly to service issues by reporting water leaks, sewer blockages, and pump failures and ensuring they were addressed promptly in coordination with municipal teams.

Additional Cleaners Deployed and 40 bags removed from M4
Environmental care remains a core component of the UIPβs work, with sustained efforts to enhance and protect the precinctβs green spaces. As such, alien invasive plant removal programmes were carried out along the promenade (before moving to different areas), and the landscaping teams continued with scheduled maintenance of gardens and green spaces. An additional forest cleaner was appointed, and two additional cleaners were deployed to the M4, where over 40 bags of rubbish were removed and all drains were cleared of debris.
Visible Policing Supports a Safe Environment
Ongoing collaboration with Metro Police and SAPS ensured strong visibility and presence throughout the precinct. High visibility patrols continued across key public areas, and the new Coastal Tourism Policing Unit remained active along the beachfront, with positive community feedback. There has also been a noticeable decline in traffic offences in the precinct.

As the precinct moves further into the busy season, all of these efforts, in collaboration with the municipality, will continue to play a key role in maintaining Umhlangaβs reputation as a safe and welcoming coastal destination.
