Following an annual perception survey conducted during the 2021/22 festive season, the uMhlanga Rocks Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) reports that most locals and holidaymakers surveyed said that the thriving resort town is safe, clean and green.
Why do we need the UIP?
The uMhlanga UIP was established by local commercial property owners in 2007 to combat urban decay, protect property values and deliver an exceptional experience of place for everyone to enjoy.
This is done by delivering supplementary cleaning, greening, maintenance and security services to the area which extends from Durban View Park to the uMhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve incorporating Lagoon Drive, Chartwell Drive, and the iconic uMhlanga Promenade.
The UIP conducts its annual survey to better understand people’s perceptions of the precinct.
Safe & clean
During the day 80% of respondents said they felt safe or reasonably safe in the precinct while 53% said they felt safe at night. 60% said the state of public open spaces are great while 63% said beaches are great. 95% of respondents said they would recommend uMhlanga Rocks to family and friends and the average experience rating out of ten was 8,38.
About the results uMhlanga UIP precinct manager Dewet Geldenhuys said: “This year’s results demonstrate that our team is delivering on its mandate to keep uMhlanga safe, clean and green. We encourage people who live, work and visit the precinct to please participate in the survey as it’s very useful in helping us understand how we are doing on the ground and what we can do to improve our services.”
