The UIP has been advised that the new start date for the Oceans uMhlanga transfer slab concrete pour on the 4th of July, with details below:
South Tower
- South side deck (Zone 1) – Wed 4 July 2018 – 350 cubic metres (+/- 7 hours)
- North side deck (Zone 2) – Sat 7 July 2018 – 350 cubic metres (+/- 7 hours)
- Main central transfer slab – Tues 10 July 2018 – 1450 cubic metres (+/- 30 hours)
North Tower
- South side deck (Zone 1) – Wed 11 July 2018 – 350 cubic metres (+/- 7 hours)
- Main central transfer slab – Fri 13 July 2018 – 1450 cubic metres (+/- 30 hours)
- North side deck (Zone 2) – Mon 16 July 2018 – 350 cubic metres (+/- 7 hours)
Full volume and duration:
- The area of the pour, which needs to be continuous, consists of an area of ±1000 m² of two deck thicknesses of 420 mm and 2500 mm
- The total volume of concrete is estimated to be ±1480m³ at a pump rate of 48m³/hour
- Placing of concrete which will be continued without any stops for ±24 hours
- Producing a power floated finish will take ±6 hours from placing of the last concrete pour
Sound / Noise volume expectancy
- Noise from the works will surely be produced but the contractor will try to keep certain sounds volume down to a minimum
Traffic control
- Traffic will be managed by a supervisor at the gate to direct traffic when the trucks enter and leave the site
To put these numbers into context each concrete mixer holds 6 m³ which equates to 246 trucks that will enter through uMhlanga onto the Oceans site over a 24-hour period, hence the decision to start in the evening to try and have as little impact on the traffic as possible.
