New push carts, landscaping efforts, and wildlife sightings in uMhlanga

Over the past two weeks, the uMhlanga UIP team has been diligently working to ensure that our precinct remains clean, green, and beautifully maintained as we welcome the vibrant energy of spring. Here’s a quick update on our recent activities:

Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance

We’ve attended to all landscaping within the precinct, ensuring everything is up to standard. Our team has focused on pruning the promenade verges and gardens, sweeping sand, and removing mud and runoff from the recent rains. In addition, we’ve been diligently cleaning out v-drains to prevent blockages and keep our drainage systems clear.

All grass areas throughout the precinct have been cut, and we’ve taken advantage of the recent rains to dress grass areas for healthier growth. As part of our ongoing beautification efforts, we are also prepping the lamp poles for a fresh coat of paint to give the promenade a renewed look.

New Equipment: Push Carts for the Team

We’re excited to announce that our cleaning, greening, and maintenance teams have just received brand-new push carts! 🚛🌿 These carts will significantly improve our efficiency as we continue to care for the precinct’s spaces, making it easier for sweeping curbs and roads, remove debris quickly. This investment underscores our commitment to keeping uMhlanga looking its best.

Wildlife Sightings: Spring Visitors

Spring has brought some exciting wildlife sightings to the precinct, including a Spotted Bush Snake (Philothamnus semivariegatus). These harmless, slender snakes are easily recognised by their vibrant green and black coloration. The Spotted Bush Snake is an excellent climber and is often spotted around homes and outbuildings while hunting for geckos, particularly the Tropical House Geckos.

Unfortunately, these harmless snakes are frequently mistaken for Green Mambas or Boomslangs, leading to unnecessary harm. We encourage everyone to appreciate these fascinating creatures from a safe distance, as they play an important role in controlling gecko populations.

Our team will continue focusing on maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of uMhlanga as we move further into spring. We appreciate the community’s support as we work to keep our precinct a safe, green, and vibrant area for everyone to enjoy.
