This month reflected steady and responsive municipal service delivery across the uMhlanga Rocks precinct through coordinated engagement and proactive monitoring.
Key infrastructure, law enforcement visibility and environmental health measures were maintained to support a safe and well-managed urban environment.
Over 95% of Precinct Lights Operational
Public lighting plays a critical role in safety, mobility and overall precinct experience. During February, 97% of promenade lights were fully operational, while 95% of street pole lights within the village were functioning.
Ongoing monitoring and reporting from the UUIP teams ensure faults are identified quickly and logged for repair.
Increased Metro Visibility
A consistent and visible Metro Police presence throughout the precinct contributed to a noticeable decline in traffic-related offences during the month.
Daytime visibility remained strong, while increased nighttime patrols proved effective in supporting compliance and deterrence. In addition, a structured Metro plan is set to be introduced to further address bylaw offences within the precinct, reinforcing orderly and responsible use of public space.
Sewage Management and Pumpstation Repair
During February, minor sewage spills and one pumpstation repair were reported. Close coordination with the Sewage Department engineer helped streamline communication and reduce waiting periods for repairs.
Rodent activity at the Village Green was addressed through intervention by Municipal Rodent Control. A coordinated management plan between DSW, Rodent Control and the UUIP has been implemented to curb infestation. This includes upgrades to the bin area, daily rubble removal and ongoing structured pest control interventions.
Februaryβs service delivery outcomes demonstrate the importance of consistent monitoring, responsive repairs and visible enforcement.
The uMhlanga UIP continues to work closely with municipal departments to ensure service delivery standards remain high and emerging issues are addressed proactively.
