April has been a month of high activity across the uMhlanga precinct, with the uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) teams focusing on sustaining the quality and cleanliness of public spaces during the busy Easter period and early autumn rainfall.
Grass Cutting, Garden and Verge Maintenance
All grass areas across the precinct were cut and maintained by both Parks and UIP teams. In addition to lawn cutting, extensive garden and verge maintenance was carried out, including sweeping and removal of silt deposits and washaways caused by frequent rains.
The heavy rainfall continued to encourage excessive vegetation growth, which remains a key focus as we work to keep the precinct’s green spaces healthy, neat, and welcoming.
Beach Cleaning and Pumpstation Response
Despite the seasonal tides and high rainfall, daily beach cleaning operations by UIP and Parks teams have kept our beaches clean, safe, and open for use.
A major operational challenge this month was the temporary failure of the McCausland Crescent pumpstation, which led to a one-day precautionary beach closure. Thanks to a swift response from eThekwini Municipality, the issue was resolved quickly, allowing beaches to reopen safely in time for the Easter weekend’s high visitor numbers.
We are pleased to report that beach activity over Easter was vibrant, with no major issues recorded, contributing to a positive experience for both residents and holidaymakers.
New Digital Feature in the Village
Adding to the evolving urban landscape, a new digital screen was installed on The Pearls building above Doppio Zero. This modern addition enhances the Village precinct’s visual appeal and brings a contemporary element to the area’s lively streetscape.
UIP Perception Survey Results Available
The 2025 UIP Perception Survey results are now available. We received 177 responses, providing valuable insights into perceptions of cleanliness, safety, and service delivery in the precinct. Thank you to everyone who participated—your feedback helps guide our ongoing improvement efforts. View the full infograph here.
As we move into the cooler months, the UIP remains committed to maintaining uMhlanga’s high standards through proactive maintenance, continued beach care, and responsive precinct management.
