As the new year begins, eThekwini Municipality (eTM) has carried out several essential maintenance and repair projects within the uMhlanga precinct. While work has been ongoing, there are still areas that require attention, and the UIP continues to follow up to ensure service delivery remains on track.
Sewage and Water Infrastructure
The Armstrong Pump Station has now been repaired and is operating as expected, helping to stabilise wastewater management in the area. Additionally, the eTM Sewage Department attended to three reported blockages, which have since been resolved.
On the water infrastructure side, the eTM Water Department responded to three separate leaks at the Pier Pump Station, all of which have now been repaired. These fixes were necessary to prevent further issues and maintain efficient water supply management.
Lighting and Electrical Work
Lighting remains an area of focus in the precinct. The eTM Lights Department attended to Promenade and Lagoon Drive lights, following an audit by the UIP that has been forwarded to the Electrical Department. However, some lighting concerns persist, particularly at the Pier area, where a UIP contractor is still working on solutions.
Road Repairs and Safety Measures
The Roads Department carried out some minor maintenance work, including:
- Replacing the Armco barrier at Durban View. (As featured in the header image)
- Line repainting in Durban View Park (scheduled but yet to be fully completed).
While these repairs are welcome, further attention is needed in several areas, and the UIP remains engaged with municipal departments to ensure outstanding issues are addressed.
Looking Ahead
The UIP continues to monitor municipal service delivery in the precinct and will follow up on outstanding repairs and maintenance. Residents and businesses can report issues via the relevant municipal channels or directly to the UIP, which will escalate where necessary.
