Breakers Deck Complete & New Metro Coastal Policing Unit Launched

Municipal Services

Collaboration between the UIP and eThekwini Municipality (eTM), together with key partners, continues to enhance infrastructure and safety across the uMhlanga precinct.

Breakers Deck Renewed and Reopened

The Breakers Deck project has been finalised, delivering a key upgrade along the promenade. Our appreciation goes to eTM and Coastal Engineering for a job well done in enhancing this important coastal space.

Stronger Law Enforcement Presence: The Metro Coastal Tourism Policing Unit

High visibility from Metro Police and SAPS continues to make a positive impact, with daily patrols and reporting improving safety across the area. Night patrols have improved, and early morning visibility has been flagged for further attention. An exciting development this month has been the launch of a new Metro Coastal Tourism Policing Unit. Now active on quad bikes within the precinct, the unit will focus:

  • Beach bylaw enforcement
  • Illegal fishing and vehicle control
  • Vagrant management
  • First response patrols

Lighting Improvements Reach 96%

The Lights Department completed maintenance within the precinct. An audit of streetlights shows the promenade lights are currently 96% operational, and the village is at 90% operational. All remaining issues have been escalated to the Electricity Department for resolution.

Ongoing collaboration between eTM departments and law enforcement is delivering tangible improvements in safety, visibility and infrastructure across uMhlanga.
