April saw focused service delivery and increased visible policing from eThekwini Municipality across the uMhlanga precinct.
Reliable Lighting A Priority
Lighting reliability remains a priority for safety and accessibility. During April, eTM’s Lights Department attended to both Promenade and Lagoon Drive lights. Routine audits were completed by the UUIP and forwarded to the Electricity Department for action and tracking. At month-end, 96% of Promenade lighting and 89% of Village streetlights were operational.
High Visibility Policing & Safer Streets
A consistently visible presence from Metro Police and SAPS continued throughout April, with daily shift reporting and active patrols across the precinct. This high visibility has made a noticeable difference in maintaining safety and deterring incidents.
Night-time visibility remains effective, while early morning patrol coverage has been identified for improvement and escalated with Metro management to ensure balanced coverage across all hours.
Public Space Maintenance
Public open spaces remain a key focus, with grass cutting across areas such as Durban View Park and Hawaan scheduled by the Parks Department.
April’s outcomes reflect the importance of routine audits, responsive maintenance and visible enforcement in maintaining a high-quality urban environment. Through ongoing coordination and monitoring, the uMhlanga precinct continues to offer a safe, functional and well-maintained space for all.
If you notice damaged infrastructure, faulty lighting, or maintenance issues within the precinct, please log the details via the uMmhlanga UIP online fault-reporting platform.
