Strong collaboration between the Umhlanga UIP and municipal departments continued throughout August, supporting essential infrastructure, environmental management and public service delivery across the precinct.
98% of Promenade and Village Lights Operational
Weekly electrical audits continued throughout the month, helping to maintain high levels of streetlight functionality across the precinct. By month-end, approximately 98% of promenade lights and 98% of village streetlights were operational, improving safety and visibility throughout Umhlanga Rocks.
Three Sewer Blockages Addressed & Good Water Quality
The UUIP continued working closely with engineers from the Sewer Department following the reporting of three sewer blockages during the month. Despite ongoing infrastructure challenges elsewhere in the city, both Umhlanga beaches remained open throughout August and continued to return good water quality results. The UUIP also continued engaging with stakeholders regarding the closed estuary bridge, where engineering intervention remains necessary to progress plans.
Overall, August again demonstrated the value of strong collaboration between the Umhlanga UIP, municipal departments and service providers.
