1100 Refuse Bags Removed: uMhlanga Clean & Safe

Cleaning, Greening and Maintenance

From beaches to parks, the UUIP’s efforts ensured the precinct remained welcoming for residents and visitors alike this month, despite weather challenges.

Beaches Open Despite Heavy Rains

Both Umhlanga beaches remained open despite heavy rains bringing debris and vegetation. The rain prompted intensified daily cleaning to restore the coastline quickly, keeping the beaches safe and enjoyable for everyone. With support from Parks, additional wood debris from earlier storms was also removed. In total, approximately 1,100 refuse bags were cleared from the beaches and Promenade during the month.

50 bags Removed – Stormwater Drains Cleared

Landscaping across the precinct was completed efficiently, with all UIP grass cutting done. Parks, including Dbn View Park and Hawaan, were maintained by the Parks Department, ensuring public spaces are safe, accessible, and visually appealing. Cleaning operations extended to the M4 corridor, where additional resources resulted in 50 bags of refuse being removed and stormwater drains being cleared, improving flow during heavy rains.

Water leaks and irrigation issues were promptly addressed, including repairs at the Pier Promenade, keeping the precinct fully functional and beautiful.

Thanks to these coordinated efforts, Umhlanga remains a functional, safe and welcoming precinct.
