As we enter the final quarter of 2025, the uMhlanga UIP continues to deliver on its mandate to ensure clean, safe, and well-maintained public spaces. From daily cleaning routines to targeted landscaping efforts and collaborative initiatives, September has been a productive month for precinct upkeep.
Beach and Promenade Upkeep
Throughout September, both main beaches remained open, with no closures reported. The UIP beach team, supported by the Parks Department, ensured public spaces were kept clean and welcoming by removing 567 bags of refuse from the beaches and promenade during the month. Daily beach cleaning continues to support positive water quality results, which remained stable throughout the period.

Turf and Landscaping Enhancements
All grass areas within the precinct were cut and maintained by the UIP teams, with additional support from the Parks Department scheduled for the first week of October.
As part of seasonal preparations, the UIP completed a topdressing programme using 360 x 20kg bags of material across various green areas. This initiative helps revitalise turf ahead of the rainy season and supports a lush, healthy public realm.

M4 Corridor: Cleaner and Greener
The M4 clean-up initiative continued to deliver excellent results, thanks to the consistent efforts of two Servest staff members and an additional forest cleaner. Together, these teams removed 40 bags of rubbish along the M4 — a key corridor leading into uMhlanga. Waterways and verges along the route were also cleared, ensuring good stormwater flow and a well-kept appearance.
Community Support: Mega Serve Initiative
In a welcome boost to precinct cleanliness, Mega Serve — as part of their community service initiative — high-pressure cleaned the canopy at Bronze Beach. The before-and-after visuals of this cleaning effort speak for themselves, showing a dramatic improvement in appearance and hygiene. The UIP thanks Mega Serve for their time and resources in making a visible difference to this popular beachfront area.

Precinct Handovers and Vegetation Management
The vegetation areas in Flamingo Lane were officially handed over to the UIP and Parks Department by the Council and Oceans in September. This move enhances the precinct’s ability to manage and maintain these public spaces efficiently. The vegetation in this zone is becoming well-established and will now benefit from regular, structured maintenance.
Planning Ahead for the Festive Season
A walkabout was conducted with the Parks Manager and Aquatic Beach Superintendent to assess the state of public beach and park infrastructure. This inspection helps prioritise urgent repairs and upgrades ahead of the busy December festive period, ensuring uMhlanga continues to offer a high-quality experience for both residents and visitors.
Thank you to all service providers, supporting stakeholders, and community partners like Mega Serve for contributing to the upkeep and vibrancy of uMhlanga.
