Special project: M4 on- and off-ramp clean-up

As part of our ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and welcoming environment in uMhlanga, the uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) has recently undertaken a special project focused on cleaning up the M4 islands. Last week, we started cutting back overgrown vegetation and clearing debris from the on- and off-ramps between Portland and the uMhlanga offramps.

What’s Involved in This Project?

The M4 islands, also known as the on- and off-ramps, were in need of attention due to overgrown vegetation and litter buildup. Our team has been working diligently to clear these areas, creating a cleaner, more visible, and safer driving environment. This clean-up helps improve visibility for drivers, reduces hidden areas, and enhances the overall appearance of the M4 entry points into uMhlanga.

Why This Matters

The M4 is a key access route for uMhlanga, and the condition of the islands can significantly impact the safety and impression of the area. By cutting back vegetation and removing debris, we’re not only beautifying the entry points but also ensuring that motorists have clear sightlines as they navigate the ramps. This effort also deters unwanted activities, such as vagrants using the overgrown areas for shelter.

Looking Ahead

This clean-up marks the beginning of ongoing maintenance efforts on the M4 islands. The UIP will continue to monitor and maintain these areas to ensure they remain in good condition, making uMhlanga’s entry points safer and more attractive for all who pass through.
