Weβre pleased to inform our community that a major issue at the Pier pumpstation has been resolved following a system blockage on 12th September. The failure was caused by a rag that got stuck in one of the valves, leading to an unexpected disruption in the sewage system.
What Happened?
The blockage at the Pier pumpstation caused a significant operational failure, disrupting the normal sewage flow in the area. Thanks to the combined efforts of the UUIP team and the eThekwini Municipality (eTM) Sewage Department, the blockage was identified, and swift action was taken to address the issue.
Repairs and Safety Measures
While the eTM Sewage Department worked to remove the rag and repair the damaged valve, the UUIP team was on-site to manage pedestrian safety by setting up a temporary ramp for passersby. This allowed residents and visitors to safely access the area while the repairs were in progress.
Restored Access and Clean-Up
Following the successful removal of the blockage and valve repairs, the area has been thoroughly cleaned and is now fully accessible to the public. The UUIP team and eTM Sewage Department ensured that the site was returned to its usual clean and safe state.
Looking Ahead
Weβd like to extend our thanks to the eTM Sewage Department for their prompt response and to our community for their patience during this time. Ensuring the proper function of our infrastructure and the safety of our public spaces remains a top priority for the UUIP.
For ongoing updates on infrastructure projects and maintenance within the precinct, keep an eye on our website and social media channels.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a clean and safe uMhlanga.
