As spring approaches, the uMhlanga UIP has remained focused on ensuring that public spaces are well-maintained, clean, and welcoming for all who live, work, or visit the precinct. August saw continued collaboration with the Parks Department, proactive vegetation control, and steady progress on signage and infrastructure upgrades.<\/p>\n

Waste Removal and Beach Maintenance<\/h3>\n

Working in partnership with the Parks Department, the UIP beach cleaning team collected 317 refuse bags<\/strong> from the beaches and promenade during the month. These efforts were enhanced by additional forest cleaners and two Servest staff<\/strong>, who focused on the M4 corridor. Their presence has led to noticeable improvements in litter control<\/strong>, particularly along the main travel routes into the precinct.<\/p>\n

Landscaping and Verge Control<\/h3>\n

All grassed areas across the precinct were cut<\/strong> by the UIP team, with the Parks Department attending to Durban View Park and the Hawaan Forest<\/strong>. A clean-up of Durban View Park<\/strong> is currently in progress, while M4 verges and waterways have been cleared<\/strong>, reinforcing the precinct\u2019s commitment to proactive landscape management.<\/p>\n

Infrastructure and Signage Enhancements<\/h3>\n

A highlight this month was the removal and reinstatement of the iconic uMhlanga Rocks sign<\/strong>, now fully functional and illuminated once again thanks to coordination between uMhlanga Tourism and municipal teams.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the bylaw signage special project<\/strong> is nearing completion, with eight sign poles now erected. <\/strong>Signage will be included shortly.<\/p>\n
