Funded by uMhlanga property owners, the uMhlanga UIP’s primary objective is to enable a thriving precinct that protects property values, enhances the quality of life, drives investor confidence, and supports economic development. This is underpinned by creating safe, clean, well-maintained, and desirable public spaces within the precinct.

Dewet Geldenhuys precinct manager, uMhlanga UIP, leads the operations teams committed to delivering these crucial supplementary services on the ground every day. This is what his typical workday looks like.

What time does your day start and end?

Now that I am fully recovered from COVID I have resumed my normal morning routine of a promenade walk at around 5am where I also check on security guards and that our scooters are running. I then head home for a quick shower and return to the precinct to attend to all operational matters until about 4:30 or 5pm.

What are your main tasks during the day?

My days are very busy and never the same. Tasks include a daily inspection of village on top of my promenade inspection, checking sewers, looking out for potholes, ensuring bin bags have been removed, meeting with our cleaners and greeners, following up on fault reports and receiving crime feedback from our security team.

Where in the precinct is your favourite coffee spot?

I have several fantastic coffee spots to choose from in the UIP but my current favourite is Bellezar which is located right on the promenade as you come down to the main beach.

Where do you lunch?

I am a lunch on the run kind of guy! And its either something that my beautiful wife has packed me or a something Ive grabbed from one of our local stores.

What do you love about your precinct and what you do?

With beautiful beaches, a clean and safe promenade and boardwalk, and wonderful restaurants, hotels and stores, uMhlanga is a special place that we can all be proud of! Not only is it one of KZN’s top tourist destinations, it also provides employment for thousands of people. I am so proud to be a part of a team that strives to keep it in fantastic condition so that people continue investing and visiting here.

Funded by uMhlanga property owners, the uMhlanga UIP’s primary objective is to enable a thriving precinct that protects property values, enhances the quality of life, drives investor confidence, and supports economic development.
